Permaculture Garden x Food: Mastering the Self, Part 1

Permaculture Garden x Food: Mastering the Self, Part 1

I will let you in on a secret.

Real food nourishes and awakens at the same time. Until you feel this directly, your mind will treat industrial snacks and your run-of-the-mill diner food as if they were actual sustenance.

Food is quite literally a slice of Earth as it carries soil, texture, light, microbes … and so many other things. It is thus a piece of an integrated system … so much so, that it is an integration system in and of itself. Think of a slice of sprouted whole-grain sourdough bread.

Those who don’t see the difference between something born from a living permaculture field, and something manufactured under fluorescent light … will be swayed and moved by corporate-crafted junk. Such a palate does not recognize vitality because such a person is shaped by industry not by nature. A mind conditioned by factories will always reach for factory food.

To perceive food the way a food forest does … organisms exchanging light, moisture, minerals, energy … such a thing allows the appetite to rewire itself. I started recognizing what my body was built to absorb, that is, wholesome ingredients with Earth identity. Cacao from filtered understory light. Mint from bright edges. Roots grown in deep, cool soil. The link between taste and vitality becomes self-evident, because, they were never separate to begin with.

This shift is sparked by unadulterated contact with reality. A permaculture garden creates conditions for life to express itself … and it does so without effort.

We, in their our form, work the same way. Remove industrial conditioning and appetite returns to its natural intelligence. I no longer crave garbage because my body stops making the eventually-fatal error of mistaking stimulation for nourishment. Big mistake.

Be careful of making conclusions … of saying “I will now eat healthy”. Whatever that means anyway. Energetically, soul-wise, internally .. mentally … if you are still stuck in an industrial, institutionalized, abstraction-full world, you will remain trapped. Only when you re-root your perception in the living Earth does confusion dissolve on its own. You may call it clarity or something else, but in any case, good old-fashioned discipline can’t hold a candle against it.

Part 2 here.
